Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Saint Anthony Hospital provides advanced-level care of high-risk pregnancies.

For most pregnant women regular prenatal checkups with their general OB/GYN physician or midwife during pregnancy and through delivery are all the medical care they need. For a woman who has an underlying medical condition or who develops a pregnancy complication affecting her body or baby, expert treatment by a board-certified, maternal-fetal medicine specialist may be beneficial.

Saint Anthony Hospital's maternal-fetal specialists are versed in the range of issues pregnant women may face, and they assist patients every step of the way.

Saint Anthony Hospital provides advanced-level care for:

  • Expectant mothers with prior medical conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease
  • Women who have health problems resulting from pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes or preeclampsia
  • Healthy mothers carrying multiple fetuses and those who have experienced prior preterm labor or delivery, recurrent miscarriages or premature rupture of the membranes.

Our maternal-fetal specialists also coordinate specialized neonatal services a baby may require prior to or shortly after delivery. They may also perform diagnostic sonograms and amniocentesis to diagnose possible genetic or anatomic abnormality, while a baby is still in utero.
